Analizamos y comparamos el estilo de vida de los habitantes de dos municipios de similar tamaño y densidad, pero diferente nivel de renta, ubicadas en el área metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB), Masquefa y Cabrera de Mar. Medimos la calidad del aire en términos de emisiones de CO2 para evaluar su nivel de sostenibilidad.

Research and material production for the exhibition at Gaudi´s building Casa Milà ‘La Pedrera’, Barcelona. Coordinated by architects Daniel Calatayud and Coque Claret.
We analyzed and compared lifestyle of the inhabitats of two cities of similar size and density, but different income rates, located in the metropolitan area of Barcelona (AMB), Masquefa and Cabrera de Mar. We measured air quality in terms of CO2 emissions in order to assess their level of sustainability.
At first glance, the results of the study of the ecological footprint of either municipality should be similar. And yet, the results of the analysis provide two realities with very different impacts on the environment.
In conclusion, the study of the environmental impact cannot focus only on urban form, which involves planning and land use, but is influenced by other parameters that affect the wear of the territory: the relationship land with its natural resources, the consumption of the inhabitants, their income etc.. The heads of the workshop questioned the belief of a relationship between sustainability and compact city model, and argue that the architectural activity must include new views on the territory including geological, biological, geographical, sociological, etc..
